Still a few left, these units have flown out of the door. This unit uses a high grade core which is much larger than the FT140-43 (true ssb power 50w pep), the Neosid core that we have used for over 15 years (G Whip antennas) and RFCOMMS for 1/1, 2/1, 4/1 voltage and current baluns/un/uns, 6/1 and 49/1 (hundreds of them) and offers 125 watts pep and never a single report of any problems from commercial or amateur radio users. We have also used these cores for 1/1 isolating chokes at the tx end (shack) and had great success in removing returned rf and noise on the coaxial feed. The 9/1 single boxed unit now incorporates a 1/1 choke wound with RG316 PTFE coax. When we launched it a few months ago sales were spotty but then people realised it really did work at the antenna feed point, so we made 20 and they all went flying out of the door, we still have a few left and pictures and info is listed below.

GRAB A BARGAIN OF A LIFETIME!
You all know what these units are and built/designed by G4ICD/GJ4ICD in 2007…..Ai the callsign, the real 49/1 multi-HF-band matching unit. These tiny mini low power QRP (50w ssb/10w FT8) were made for a club challenge to see who could work the furthest distance on the highest frequency and the winner would receive a great prize of a 7″ VNA analyser. The challenge was to prove what could be done with low power. The UK winner worked ZL (New Zealand) on 28MHz with 5 mtrs of wire in the garden (1/2 wave resonant end fed antenna) and using just 10 watts of ssb which was a super contact and it was confirmed to me via email. So here is a super bargain, £10 buys you one of the test units (1 per person), mint condition, fully tested, 4 with SO239 sockets and 3 with BNC sockets, core is FT140 wound with PTFE wire 50 watt rated, nice stainless steel line and mounting eyes and spring loaded connector so you can play with different 1/2 wave wire lengths. MOTOROLA HANDHELDS
Information has been received that a mega quantity of Motorola handhelds are on their way back to the UK for de-commissioning, it’s not known yet if they are going back to the seller (SMC) or a n other dealer. These units were encrypted so will have to be de commissioned and reprogrammed, more news later and I also have the contact info which is Andy G4MYS QTHR who programmed them.
UPDATE 10/26 These units are now in the UK and understand a dealer in Poole has them.
The units were sold to the Afghan security services like the Yaesu FT897 HF units were that were returned to the UK after use and they needed some TLC as they were full of sand but they were serviceable!

About time somebody made a quality dipole centre in the UK,
so here are 2 new ones, available now, here are the pictures and details.

FITTING THE LINES
A simple 5 minute job, firstly if using kevlar braid wire tin approx 5/10 mm after removing the green pvc, DO NOT CUT OUT THE YELLOW BRAIDED KEVLAR INSIDE THE METAL WIRE MESH, then SOLDER the end onto the solder tag, DO NOT CRIMP RF CONNECTIONS FOR OUTDOOR USE AS YOU MAY CAUSE A DIODE EFFECT IF THE JOINT CORRODES. Then thread the wire through the ss wire strain relief and fit the ss wire clamp as picture above
VERSION 2 VERTICAL ENCLOSURE 1.8 to 54MHz: 1KW PEP: POA:

The Chinese 64/1 unit rebuilt to a professional standard
VSWR 1.2/1 on 7/14/21/28MHz (even CB!). The BLUE vertical lines on the Analyser are the Amateur Radio Bands, this shows the perfect resonance at 7/14/21/28MHz

- These include a poor core, some were loose
- Various different winding variations (3)
- Loose solder tag with no internal locking washer/nut rendering the item DOA
- Dry solder joints on SO239 earth. DOA
- Poor return loss/sweep
- The cost was quite expensive for the quality
The only 5 star good point is the enclosure, it is well thought out and superb as it offers inbuilt strain reliefs for line and mounting, So, we rebuilt the unit and did several modifications. We replaced the core with a genuine Neosid Ni/Zn/F14 top quality unit that will handle 125 watt pep with no problems that we have been using for over 15 years with extensive sales to Commercial (125 watt Transceivers) and Amateur Radio enthusiasts, compared to Amidon FT140-43 (which are 50 watts pep rated not 150w as people claim) these cores are much larger and the winding was also replaced with quality RS silver plated PTFE wire, several different external “posts” were tried including spring loaded, bolt up type and solder tag variants, all were good if correctly fitted. Finally, the unit was resin potted for stability in all weathers. This is now top commercial quality at a great price and hand made by Geoff Brown G4ICD (look up the call on QRZ.COM)

49/1 EFD HARMONICS EXPLANATION
The Harmonics & Octaves created from the 49/1 MUST start from “A” Fundamental, like music does, eg if you have a 49/1 and you add 10 mtrs of wire you get a half wave Fundamental antenna for 14MHz (20mtrs) that is the BASE point, and a 2nd Harmonic of 28MHz (10 mtrs) and so on for 3/4/5 times the fundamental frequency. If you want to get multiple harmonics within 3 to 30MHz you start with a Fundamental of 3.5MHz and then multiply by 2/3/4/5/6/7/8 to get to 28MHz!. See below. This is explained as a few people are trying to get 18MHz from a 20 mtr line and it does not work like that but you could use a manual matcher/tuner for 18MHz, see below, however, when using an external matcher or tuner no more than 10 watts should be used during the matching process as miss-matches can cause extremely high RF currents which could cause RF heating damage.

CHINESE 64/1? SEVERAL PROBLEMS
ABSOLUTE SUPERB ENCLOSURE
BUT INTERNALS COULD BE BETTER?
Some new interesting un/uns around, testing a few after it was reported that the 64/1 units were not very good, so we did a comparison test against our special 49/1 core. Sweeps below.
Chinese 64/1 Sweep above as received, judging by the weight of the core we suspect it is an Iron powder core that is used, hence the sweep
We swapped out the core for our 49/1 using a good grade Ni/Zn/F14 (Neosid) mix core and silver plated RS PTFE wire which is a much better sweep showing a better return loss, conclusion? well a GREAT enclosure and well thought out with built in strain reliefs which are 10mm thick and made on a 3D printer??maybe not?? which is impressive for a Chinese product to see this quality. I love the enclosure which is on Yeggi 3dp. stl file, a pity we cannot get just the enclosure and not a finished half baked product!
So, do you know what you are getting when you buy Chinese product? Look at the windings carefully.

Poor Chinese engineering! the outside nut came loose and then the internal solder tag was floating around, the solder tag should have a locking washer after the solder tag and then a nut to stop the problem, but still like the enclosure but they all need rebuilding for outside use.

The SO239 socket has not been tinned correctly on the earth side of the socket and we have a superb dry joint making the unit DOA.
